Dark Matter, Energy Puzzling Astronomers

"We owe our very existence to dark matter," said Paul Steinhardt, a physicist at Princeton University and a co-author of a review on dark matter appearing this week in the journal Science.

…dark matter caused particles to clump together. That set up the gravitation processes that led to the formation of stars and galaxies. Those stars, in turn, created the basic chemicals, such as carbon and iron, that were fundamental to the evolution of life.

You can think of ordinary matter as a froth on an ocean of dark matter. The dark matter clumps and the ordinary matter falls into it. That led to the formation of the stars and galaxies."

Without dark matter, "there would be virtually no structures in the universe," he said.

Robert P. Kirshner, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, said the presence of dark energy was proved only five years ago when astronomers studying very distant exploding stars discovered they were moving away at a constant acceleration. It was a stunning discovery that has since been proved by other observations.

"What this is pointing to is a deep mystery at the heart of physics," said Kirshner. "We don't understand gravity in the same way we understand other forces."

    On this page I will focus on relating concepts conveyed often in the form of metaphor found in ancient texts with technologically advanced concepts that have recently been discovered or their fundamental principles described.  Many people (including myself in the past) have stated or thought that most if not all of the concepts found in the bible have no basis in scientific fact.  I contend now, that this was perceived to be true historically because the science that was alluded to was more advanced then we had yet achieved.  So many truths have remained hidden right in front of us because of our cognitive preferences, temporal bias and professional specialization.  The answers to questions regarding our past can be found in our future.  When you find the answers the circle will be complete.

    Let's project ourselves 100 years into our future.  Based on the past century of accelerating technological achievement and our current level of progress in areas such as; genetics, computing, and physics (including quantum physics) what sorts of technologies might we have at our disposal?  How would we apply these technologies and for what purposes?  Based on the current level of ethical development exemplified by the culture of the United States it's unlikely that humanity or at least the vast majority of it would survive even 20 more years.  Ethics and science must never be divided. 

    I'm going to cite a series of quotes from both scientists and skeptics and the bible that I believe either correspond with and validate each other.  Except for the section on the Unifying theory I am purposely choosing to refrain from spelling out my interpretation for two principle reasons.  First is that by requiring the reader to look for the similarities in them or to try to argue there cannot be a correlation, the reader will have to use more of their own cognitive capabilities (specifically the right frontal lobe where intuition is localized).  The second reason is a requirement of the scientific method.  How will I know that the conclusions I have drawn are correct unless others reach the same conclusions independently?  Here is an important clue, I recommend that when you encounter the word 'God' or a similar word, that you consider it an unknown variable like x  (God = x, x = unknown).  Note that I'm referring to the word God and not the individual entity called by many names, e.g. Allah, The Great Spirit, Ahura Mazda, Tirawa, etc.   Here are a few memes to put you in the proper frame of mind.

Because of science and technology, our world has changed more in the past century than in the previous 100 centuries. It took 10,000 years to get from the dawn of civilization to the airplane but just 66 years to get from powered flight to a lunar landing.

Although science has not even remotely destroyed religion, Shermer's Last Law predicts that the relation between the two will be profoundly affected by contact with an ETI. To find out how, we must follow Clarke's Second Law: "The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible." Ad astra!

References and allusions to the unifying theory

    The first example comes from some 1600 year old papyrus texts found in Egypt in 1945.  The contents of the Gospel According to Mary are attributed to the teachings of Jesus Christ as conveyed by Mary Magdalene.  The Catholic Church for centuries taught that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.  On the contrary from the various Gnostic texts found in Nag Hammadi she was a woman of wealth how helped the early Christian movement financially.  She was also an apostle of Christ and was told things not taught to the other apostles.  This favored position with Christ caused animosity between her and some of the other apostles.  In the Gospel According to Phillip it is said Jesus often kissed her on the mouth.  These teachings similar to those considered Buddhist were purged during the early Christian movement in order to define 'orthodoxy'.  Note the discussion of matter.

    I contend the initial question, "...Will matter then be destroyed or not?" refers to the galactic annual event which marks the 'birth' or creation of our solar system, Earth, and life on Earth.  The downside of this event is that it also results in massive upheavals and destruction as evidenced by the mass extinctions 220 and 440 million years ago on Earth.  I provide the explanation for this event which occurs in our system every galactic year in my research paper and beginning on the Introduction page.  The warning for this event has been retold cross culturally for millennia, "The Earth will shake, the seas will boil, and fire will rain from the sky."

    I contend the references to matter and nature in verses 22 and 23, "All nature, all formations, all creatures exist in and with one another" are referring to atomic and sub-atomic theory (string theory) as well as quantum theory and dark energy (quantum energy) which combined should result in a unifying theory, a theory of everything.

    I contend the statement, "Matter gave birth to a passion that has no equal, which proceeded from something contrary to nature."  is probably referring to black holes, matter and consequently galaxy formation.  This would be a natural extension of Nucleosynthesis, the physics that explains how the chemical elements (of which we are made) are synthesized by stars. 

Black holes: mothers of the Universe?
"Black holes aren't exactly the celestial darlings of our universe. They're commonly thought of as giant space vacuums slowly and methodically sucking the universe dry. But these monsters of destruction may not be so monstrous after all. New research that identifies three new supermassive black holes - bringing the grand total so far to 20 - adds credence to the theory that massive black holes are also intricately related to the creation and evolution of galaxies. Maybe, without black holes, we wouldn't even be here."

    Note how similar the concepts attributed to the 'Savior' (an INTP) are with those articulated by Albert Einstein (an INTP) and Rudolf Steiner (probably also INTP).  When I've posted the following quote on public message boards others have pointed out that it appears Taoist and Buddhist.  (The Buddha I contend was also INTP)

    In case you're curious about versus 25-29 that I removed from the GAM citation above, I elaborate on this essentially moral/subjective claim in many other pages of this site, of those pages the KnowYourself is the most informative.  However to summarize, the Savior's claim that, "There is no sin, but it is you who make sin when you do the things that are like the nature of adultery, which is called sin" reflects the same conclusions I reached independently and conveyed to my brother.  These thoughts are also reflected in the teachings of both Zoroaster (another INTP and Buddha) and the Buddha Siddhartha Guatamma and very likely other individuals I haven't studied yet.  They are a result of applying objective reasoning to subjective concepts.

Theory suggests sun's gamma ray burst triggered ancient mass extinction

The second-largest extinction in the Earth's history, the killing of two-thirds of all species, may have been caused by ultraviolet radiation from the sun after gamma rays destroyed the Earth's ozone layer.

Astronomers are proposing that a supernova exploded within 10,000 light years of the Earth, destroying the chemistry of the atmosphere and allowing the sun's ultraviolet rays to cook fragile, unprotected life forms.

All this happened some 440 million years ago and led to what is known as the Ordovician extinction, the second most severe of the planet's five great periods of extinction.

Since the late 1970s, the amount of solar radiation the sun emits, during times of quiet sunspot activity, has increased by nearly .05 percent per decade, according to a NASA funded study.

"This trend is important because, if sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change," said Richard Willson, a researcher affiliated with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University's Earth Institute, New York. He is the lead author of the study recently published in Geophysical Research Letters.

"Historical records of solar activity indicate that solar radiation has been increasing since the late 19th century. If a trend, comparable to the one found in this study, persisted throughout the 20th century, it would have provided a significant component of the global warming the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports to have occurred over the past 100 years," he said.

Earth's magnetic field - the force that protects us from deadly radiation bursts from outer space - is weakening dramatically.

Scientists have discovered that its strength has dropped precipitously over the past two centuries and could disappear over the next 1,000 years.

The effects could be catastrophic. Powerful radiation bursts, which normally never touch the atmosphere, would heat up its upper layers, triggering climatic disruption. Navigation and communication satellites, Earth's eyes and ears, would be destroyed and migrating animals left unable to navigate.

'Earth's magnetic field has disappeared many times before - as a prelude to our magnetic poles flipping over, when north becomes south and vice versa,' said Dr Alan Thomson of the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh.

'Reversals happen every 250,000 years or so, and as there has not been one for almost a million years, we are due one soon.'

For more than 100 years, scientists have noted the strength of Earth's magnetic field has been declining, but have disagreed about interpretations. Some said its drop was a precursor to reversal, others argued it merely indicated some temporary variation in field strength has been occurring.

But now Gauthier Hulot of the Paris Geophysical Institute has discovered Earth's magnetic field seems to be disappearing most alarmingly near the poles, a clear sign that a flip may soon take place.

Horneck’s results lend more support to the modern variant of Lord Kelvin’s moss-grown rock idea. When large objects impact a planet, there’s a sort of splash zone in a ring abound the impact. Large chunks of planet may shoot into space. Impacts this large were common late in the formation of the solar system. But even as recently as about 65 million years ago a meteor hit Mexico, ejecting so much material into the atmosphere that it’s suspected of causing the extinction of the dinosaurs.

"This concept, called also litho-panspermia, is based on the scenario that by an impact of a very large kilometer-sized meteor or comet, material is ejected from a planet and can reach escape velocity," Horneck explains. "There are certain areas at the rim of the impact crater, called the spallation zone, where by reflection of the shock wave the temperatures do not exceed 100 degrees Celsius" [212 degrees Fahrenheit, the boiling point of water].

That’s cool enough to allow spores to survive ejection, the first stage of interplanetary travel. The second stage Horneck addressed in her research. "There are some studies simulating the reentry process," Horneck says of the last stage of an interplanetary trip. "It seems, that spores can also survive this in the inner part of the meteorite. Entering the atmosphere goes very fast, and so only the outer layer is heated."

They want to get right with God. I've never seen anything like it in my 30 years in ministry."

Unleashing the Killer App
1.7 THE LAW OF DISRUPTION, OR SECOND-ORDER EFFECTS
This is not the world of the future but the one we already live in... It's already begun, and it will make feudalism look mild by comparison. We refer to these second-order effects, the combination of Moore's Law and Metcalfe's Law, as the Law of Disruption. (See Figure 1.4) It can be simply stated as follows: Social, political, and economic systems change incrementally, but technology changes exponentially.

The systems that make up human civilization, including commercial systems, change over time, but they do so on an incremental basis. Law, for example, evolves to encompass the unique features of new technologies, but it does so at an agonizingly slow pace, as anyone who has studied railroad, banking, or telecommunications law can attest. Technology change instead follows the track of Metcalfe's curve. Once there is a critical mass of users, the rate of change-what you might think of as the disruption index-accelerates exponentially. It is in the growing chasm between the different rates of change that secondary effects occur.

Technology change initially affects technology, in other words, but once critical mass is reached, the disruption takes place in other, unrelated systems.

Carl Sagan
He believed that the Drake Equation suggested that a large number of extraterrestrial civilizations would form, but that the lack of evidence of such civilizations suggests that technological civilizations tend to destroy themselves rather quickly. This stimulated his interest in identifying ways that humanity could destroy itself, with the hope of avoiding such destruction and eventually becoming a space-faring species.

The Drake Equation
The final factor in the equation involves the lifetime of intelligent civilizations and the lifetime of the Milky Way galaxy. The lifetime of the galaxy is believed to be about 10 billion years (1010 years), however estimating the lifetime of a communicating civilization is more difficult. The only example we have is our own civilization, which has achieved the ability for interstellar communication in only the last generation or two. But the real question is how long will we last as a civilization? This question is difficult to answer. If we are very pessimistic, we might put L at a few decades; if we are very optimistic, we might measure it on a geological timescale. We can imagine two extreme cases: a technical society that destroys itself soon after reaching the communicative phase (i.e. L<102 years) and a technical society that learns to live with itself soon after reaching the communicative phase; if the society gets past L=102 years, it is unlikely to destroy itself from then on and its lifetime can be measured on a stellar evolutionary scale (i.e. L>>108 years).

Leaked Pentagon report warns climate change may bring famine, war: report

LONDON (AFP) - A secret report prepared by the Pentagon warns that climate change may lead to global catastrophe costing millions of lives and is a far greater threat than terrorism.

The report was ordered by an influential US Pentagon advisor but was covered up by "US defense chiefs" for four months, until it was "obtained" by the British weekly The Observer.

The leak promises to draw angry attention to US environmental and military policies, following Washington's rejection of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change and President George W. Bush's skepticism about global warning -- a stance that has stunned scientists worldwide.

The Pentagon report, commissioned by Andrew Marshall, predicts that "abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies," The Observer reported.

The report, quoted in the paper, concluded: "Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life.... Once again, warfare would define human life."

Scientists Report 'Teleported' Data

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Australian scientists said Monday they had successfully "teleported" a laser beam encoded with data, breaking it up and reconstructing an exact replica a yard away.

Lam said he believes the process, called "quantum teleportation" and which takes a nanosecond — one billionth of one second — will soon be used for teleporting matter.

"My prediction is if we are not doing it, it will probably be done by someone in the next three to five years, that is the teleportation of a single atom or a small group of atoms," he said.

Teleporting a living person would likely be virtually impossible, scientists said.

"In theory, there is nothing stopping, us but the complexity of the problem is so huge no one is thinking seriously about it at the moment," Lam said.

The Physiology of Jung’s Four Functions & Their Organization

From the above overview we have learned that:

1. Jung’s four Functions are rooted in four distinct areas of the cortex. Thinking is housed in the Left Frontal Lobe. Intuition is housed in the Right Frontal Lobe. Sensation is housed in the Left Posterior Convexity. Feeling is housed in the Right Posterior Convexity.
2. Jung’s assertion that each of us has one Natural Lead Function is the result of a neuro-chemical - physiological fact that each person has one area which is 100 times more efficient than their remaining three areas.
3. Jung’s assertion that each person has two natural auxiliaries can be understood to be the natural result of the brain’s structure. Factually speaking, neuronal bridges hardwire a person’s Natural Lead to their auxiliaries, making communication between their lead and auxiliaries easy, even though each actual auxiliary is relatively speaking highly inefficient.
4. Jung’s assertion that once a person’s Natural Lead Function has been identified, one can confidently calculate the person’s greatest Natural Weakness, is the result of the simply fact that there are no diagonal bridges in the human brain.
5. The difference between the Feeling Function and Emotions can be understood more clearly. The Feeling Function is a cortical capacity to recognize the presence or absence of harmony – between colors, tones, or human beings. By contrast, emotions are a limbic capacity to experience delight, anger, fear, grief.

Ne is perceiving abstract patterns and connections in
response to stimuli (either in the external world or in the
mind. ) Ne generates new information starting from
something existing. Ne focuses on future possibilities.

Ni is the creation of mental imagery independent of outer
stimuli. Ni generates abstract structural images of a given
problem domain that a person can view from different
points of view at will. Ni focuses on the structure of things
from a timeless point of view.

“Enlightenment” is a neurological phenomenon that occurs when an individual is able to simultaneously and accurately comprehend (or utilize) all four cognitive functions. There appears to be some form of cascade effect that causes an alignment of information in all four quadrants....
